  usa politicians in charge of the economy for the past 50 years were too stupid to understand how the economy works.

  this just proves my theory, that an education on the top tier universities just sucks and means nothing in the real world, unless its in the stem education.

  for 50 years usa had zero tariffs on other countries.

  I mean I wouldn’t totally put it past some newspapers to be as wrong as that, but they are usually wrong on the details rather than the entire framing.

  Have you been living under a rock the past 5 years? This was as others said, and I said in the other thread - a local interest story about someone who had a family legend they were related to a (in)famous cardinal who later became pope. Could as well be, hey here is a picture of a train that stopped by our village and he got some ice cream here. Newspapers will hang onto any gossip, remember Carter Paige, turns out to be their source was a drunk British embassy employee talking too much at a bar in DC or something like that and they blew it up into a full congressional investigation without any evidence and proof was never found. Or JFK/MLK/Area 51, thousands of opinion articles have been written which are then sourced as evidence for some theory, the Zapruder film was coined by the media as the only video evidence to the point the official investigations ignored literally any other source, until 1978, by the early 2000s the original footage of various sources had seen no interest and many have since been lost or sold into private collections.

  Big Pharma, like most companies has a 2% profit margin across the board. Any higher and the market will put up a competitor that is closer to the mean. Many pharma companies and hospitals have gone out of business in the past few years because cost mandates under the Biden admin, which made it no longer profitable, you may have heard of Purdue, Janssen, Johnson&Johnson or Novum as they made some ‘common’ medications like OxyContin, insulin, band-aid and now have failed or have recently announced financial problems, J&J actually filed for bankruptcy earlier this year. Then people are surprised when cost skyrocket as demand can no longer be met. Nurses are in such demand, the good ones make upwards of $100/h.

  Just because a company makes lots of money doesn’t make it highly profitable, most of the market makes profits near the edge of absolute chaos and disaster. Governments are the most profitable entities out there, because they have no shareholders, not everyone can participate into making an ‘investment’ in government, but if you find a way, you get massive profits paid for by the tax payers off course.

  @joey: I described the balloon effect. If your government sets a price that is unrealistically low then those costs are eaten by inflating the price in the US.

  Say it costs $100 to manufacture the drug but a socialist government says, nah, we will only pay $20, then you have the choice of not selling at all and ceding the market and likely get penalized on other transactions by said government, or you can sell the $20 and redistribute the $80 cost to your other customers. However now other socialist systems do the same and more and more of the cost gets subsidized by non-socialist countries. You squeeze the balloon on one end, it must bulge somewhere else.

  There are multiple effects:

  - The balloon effect - if eg. Australia or the EU does price fixing, the balloon gets squeezed on their end, and bulges on the US end. This is what Trump is trying to avoid by mandating the preferred country - so costs for Australians, Brits and other Europeans are going to increase because we're no longer subsidizing their healthcare (which the US currently does for billions per year).

  - The invention effect - many drugs available in the US are recently invented and not available in other markets, so the average price is high because we are paying thousands for new 'luxury' drugs like Ozempic. Eg chemotherapy used to be such 'luxury' treatment, when rich Americans started treating cancer, it eventually became available everywhere.

  - The cherry picking effect - when news organizations cherry pick data on specific drugs and treatments, you get some weird numbers. However, the US pays lower prices on average for about 80% of drugs (generics) compared to other countries who pay on average more per dose for generics. On the other hand statistics from other countries often do not include private healthcare costs. Eg. in most countries a not insignificant amount of people still requires/desires private health care, which is significantly more expensive than the US (hence why people come TO the US for health tourism and besides some sketchy procedures, nobody goes to Canada or Mexico) and not included in public cost schedules.

  - Simpson's paradox - Most data about medical care needs to be classified in a category and then you can compare categories. Eg. it makes no sense to compare cancer care survival rates and costs if a country like Canada or some EU countries promotes euthanasia as a cost reduced option but does not consider it an adverse effect. So if you're aggregating 20% of treatments that aren't available in other countries, aggregating dissimilar data and make sweeping statements, you end up with huge errors.

  she finally went back to the kh and since they couldn't find her paperwork, (all the former elders were dead) she was allowed back in without reinstatement.

  Then the reflection that "we used to be young and we're still here" - that argument alone is what many people are silently thinking, but now the org is SAYING IT OUT LOUD!

  The questions "How do you know they’re lies if you haven’t even read it" MANY people may actually think this argument makes sense AFTER YOU'VE BEEN TOLD TO FUCK OFF AND DIE.

  Yeah, they're spinning it in some story that you should still rely on the Borg, but many people are going to be asking themselves, Why? Once those doubts start nagging, it's hard to get them under control again.

  yet some of them seem to lack self control when it comes to eating.

  br herd, mark sanderson and br jackson in these are all very obese.. if they travel to poor places wearing their rolex watches and gold pinky rings the brothers there will surely wonder why they are so fat.. there are many scriptures talking about not being greedy and not gluttonous for food.. if they were really chosen by god as his channel on earth then why can’t they show the fruits of the spirit and show self control when it comes to being gluttonous?.

  Not sure where Rattigan gets that JW’s were ever led by Jesus. Even if you somehow think the Bible Students were earnest, the GB idea came after the third schism of Bible Students. The JW organization has always been led by people at the top, they never claimed otherwise. If you want the original Bible Students or Watchtower organization, it is still around, it is not the WTBTS/JW.

  There are various cases where it has held that elders are not covered because they do not have anything resembling a confession or secrecy. If you report to an elder, they start a committee and a written report, that is no longer clergy penitent privilege but business record.

  The problem is that very few attorneys actually know how the JW org works and in most cases there is no claim of privilege, nor are elders sued directly.
